Karlatornet – a collaboration between British Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) and Danish Entasis - was announced as the winner of an international competition of what is going to become the tallest building in the Nordic countries. The tower will be situated on Lindholmen, and with its 73 floors, it will estimate a total height of 245 meters. Karlatornet will become a new landmark for the city of Gothenburg, as well as mark the start of the development of the new neighborhood Karlastaden, which will consist of eight blocks of residences, offices, commerce, and service.
Karlatornet will house around 600 residences, from traditional smaller-sized apartments to grand, luxury apartments. In the ground floors of the construction, there will be a hotel with 300 rooms, spa, gym, and conference facilities, as well as offices, management facilities and the entrance to the viewpoint on the 69th floor.
Since the beginning of the project, Semrén & Månsson has acted as SOM’s local partner as well as an advisor to the developer behind the project; Karlastaden Utveckling. The role includes creating the building’s hotel and office areas, but also the design of project planning and construction documents for the framework, public areas and the hotel and office spaces. Furthermore, Semrén & Månsson is also in charge of the project planning for the residences in the tower.
Throughout the project, Semrén & Månsson has also been assisting other acting parties in the ongoing design and development process.
