    Magasinet

Ever since the beginning of the 21th century, Semrén & Månsson has been working with the area called Juvelkvarnen where old buildings from the mill industry were about to be transformed to host apartments. The warehouse Magasinet, drawn by city architect Per Lennart Håkansson, from the beginning of the 20th century, was the last of three historical buildings to be transformed. Originally, the idea was to maintain the existing building and repair and refurbish the facades. However, this...

    Neva Park

When we were commissioned to create an urban plan for the 10 ha of space in Rybatskoe on the banks of the Neva river, we wanted to create an area with lots of variation despite its large scale, and with a theme indicating that everyone could enjoy the good life. It was all a matter of building a new way of life here! There is major emphasis on people and clear qualities in the local area. People enter the area via a magnificent gateway between tall character buildings and then enter the large...

    Palmhuset

The Palm House at Trädgårdsföreningen was completed in 1878. Shanks & Son supplied the entire building as a kit made of cast iron and glass. The indoor environment of the greenhouse, with its high level of humidity, meant that the building was subject to severe corrosion for a long time. A number of the pillars in the main structure even showed fissures in connection with the rust. Our commission began in 1980 and led to full dismantling of the Palm House. New conditions and demands for...

    Brf Götheborg

Brf Götheborg is a small housing cooperative surrounded by water on three sides, at the far end of Eriksberg Dock. The counterpart of this six-storey tower block is situated on the other side of the dock, and these two buildings are referred to as "the port buildings" in the design programme for the City Planning Department. Walled gardens next to the water can also be found here. The garden at Brf Götheborg has a Chinese theme and still includes plants from the original garden that was in...

    Årstafältet

As a parallel contract, Semrén & Månsson was invited to design a residential block as part of Årstafältet and then continued with the project commission. A simple, space-efficient normal plan was used to pave the way for something innovative with historical links on the site. Clear references to Årsta's unique 1950s structure and design idiom can be seen here, combined with the design principles of today. The variation in height and the relationship between the ends of the building and...

    Avalon Hotel Interior

The detailed plan was formulated and the guidelines were drawn up in close cooperation with the City Construction Office for what would become Avalon Hotel. Semrén & Månsson participated from detailed planning to detailed design. Right from the outset, the goal was to create an extrovert and experimental building that united public content with an expressive exterior. The asymmetry of the tapered plot was picked up and can be seen throughout the entire hotel in the form of a "broken...

    Gårda terrass

Gårda Terrass is situated in an open location next to the Mölndalsån river. The nature of this area bears traces of the industrial era of Gothenburg. Over the last few decades, industry in the area has been replaced mainly by offices, but also with homes to an extent. The plan from the 1980s specified homes nearest to the Mölndalsån river and a row of blocks of offices and car parks as a screen against the traffic route. The housing situation of the 1980s, with surplus apartments and the...

    Campus Haga Interior

Campus Haga with the Faculty of Social Sciences is located in two blocks in the district of Haga. These buildings were erected in the early 1990s and designed by what is known as Hagagruppen, with Vallgatan and Wallinders Arkitektkontor. At that time, the buildings were planned with vertical communication, with a stairwell for each institution. As part of the renovation project, this has been altered to provide more horizontal communication between areas. Semrén & Månsson has worked with...

    Clarion Hotel Post Interior

The transformation of Centralposthuset into a major high-class hotel will develop the area around Drottningtorget in a positive and substantial way in future. This project came into being as a result of a discussion with construction company PEAB, which in turn had been asked to assist in the establishment of a major new Choice group hotel. When asked what an appropriate location would be, the central station was mentioned – "but there's no space free round there". We were working on Hotel...

    Medicinareberget

This project is a study for expansion of Medicinarberget's university-linked buildings down on Linnéplatsen. This will resolve part of the stalemate currently prevailing at Medicinarberget and permit a link down towards Linnéplatsen, Övre Husargatan, the School of Business, Economics and Law and other central university functions. There are major level differences on this particular site, which is why we are suggesting a "climbing" building with glazed spaces. These level differences can be...

    Kv Idogheten I+II

The Idogheten district is situated opposite Saluhallen. The central building in the row towards Vallgatan was originally built as a sugar refinery in 1808, but it has undergone a number of radical alterations. Renovation of these properties has taken place over two phases. The first phase involved the smaller part towards Korsgatan, which was renovated in 1992. This project worked with shops and offices. Phase two involved reconstruction following a dramatic fire which all but completely...

    BRF Solterrassen

The Solterrassen project in Solsidan includes renovation and extension of a two-storey apartment building, made of brick, plaster and stone by the famous Ahlsén brothers in 1954. The existing building on Skyttevägen is being converted into apartments and townhouses. All homes will be south-facing and have generous balconies and outdoor areas. At the top of the building, there will be six exclusive penthouses with loft bedrooms and roof terraces. This commission involved preserving the...

    Brf Klätterträdet

Semrén & Månsson continues its collaboration with Veidekke in the brown field area of Gothenburg called Kvillebäcken. The site of this project is in the best position of the entire area, adjacent to the creek park and very close to the center of Backaplan and all its communications. To give the residents of the house a unique feature we chose to design a building with a large, open terrace. Approx. half of the roof of the building is planned as a green terrace where the residents can...

This district is situated in central Norrköping, at the corner of Drottninggatan and Norra Promenaden. The project was preceded by a parallel commission relating to the development of parks and the station area in Norrköping. We were also commissioned to investigate a smaller area, the district of Rodga. The detailed plan includes 120-150 apartments. The residential district borders on Norra Promenaden, with its buildings five to seven storeys high. The individual nature of the façade...

    Blåsenhus

In 2009, Akademiska hus and Uppsala University invited four offices to participate in a parallel commission for a new office and training building in Uppsala. One office from each Nordic country was invited. Semrén & Månsson was given the honour of representing Sweden. Our proposal is based on a semiotic analysis of the urban structure of Uppsala and will provide us with the foundation and revenue to build a tall structure, as tall as Carolina Rediviva nearby. The administration building...

    Klippan homes

The Klippan Cultural Reserve is situated to the west, adjacent to the bridgehead of the Älvsborgsbron bridge. This area is utilitarian in nature, with tall brick buildings and steep tiled roofs. Klippan is part of a walking and recreation route extended from Nya Varvet to the west, via Rosenlund and on to Lilla Bommen in the city centre. These condominiums have been designed for Klippans Kulturfastigheter and are situated between the ruins of the old Älvsborg fortress and Oscarsleden. These...

This area has undergone very rapid development of late, and its growth is expected to continue in years to come as well. Semrén & Månsson has devised a proposal for consolidation of Mölnlycke Centrum via a parallel contract. In the first phase, a route in a north-south direction will be devised which passes through central Mölnlycke, with buildings at either end for...

    Östra Sannegården

Östra Sannegården is a newly constructed residential area to the west of Lindholmen. The old quay is now mainly home to condominiums. We designed rented apartments for Familjebostäder in this area. These apartments have an open floor plan, with good contact with the outside world. In most of the apartments, the kitchen, dining area, living room and outdoor area form a single unit, with glass sections from floor to ceiling providing a minimal barrier to balconies and terraces. In most cases,...

    Porslinsfabriken

There was extensive discussion on how best to utilise the old porcelain factory in the future. A number of proposals have been compiled for the building and the rest of the site. The factory is of value as a industrial relic, and so the proposals have been based on preservation of the building to varying extents. The location in the city is attractive, close to Hjalmar Brantingplatsen and its services, shops and range of cultural features. The area is also directly next to Kvillebäcken. After...
